Petsmart Versus Petco in Puppy/ Dog Training ?
Im thinking about adopting a puppy or dog in summer and was wondering where I should train him/her. Petsmart and Petco both having training programs, but I dont know which to choose! If you have any information youd like to share, please do. (costs, effective training, better classes, anything) Also, feel free to tell me which of the two stores you prefer and why. Thanks!

Im not a fan of either of them. Both have moved to training their store clerks how to teach training classes (rather than hiring experienced trainers) Which may be workable if all the dogs (and their humans) are capable of learning in their specific method but makes no real allowances for the oddball dog (or human owner). Problem solving skills are minimal.
Local kennel clubs and training facilities are a far better choice for the money. Personally, Id choose a professional training facility or you can teach your dog yourself. To teach your dog yourself, check this website out.

What do you think about Petsmart/Petco training classes?
I used to work at a Petsmart, and I was very dissatisfied with how the training was done and run. I was also dissatisfied with how they train the trainers. They send them to a special Petsmart training class for about a month, and then they are allowed to train.
I took my dog to a private training class (even though I would have had a discount or free experience at Petsmart), and it was CHEAPER than the classes that the Petsmart had by about $30. I also learned a lot and they helped me with many issues. They also tested my dog for CGC and TDI.
Why do people on here frequently recommend people to go to a Petsmart or Petco for training, or for training questions/advice? Please tell me what is so great about it, because as a future trainer, I dont see why people always recommend them so highly.
I was in a private training class, but that doesnt mean we were the only ones in it. It was just a private facility that had the classes. We were one of 12 pairs in the class. As I said, my private classes were actually $30 cheaper than Petsmart, and they were closer to my home. You obviously got a trainer who did extra work, and not just the Petsmart class where they normally get trained at.
There is also no college degree for dog grooming. There are grooming schools that will offer a degree or a certificate, but there are no colleges that offer a degree in dog grooming. I know this because I considered being a groomer, but my parents wanted me to get a BA, and no college offered one for grooming.

I dont recommend them and I think its a waste of time and money. Many people who have used their training programs were very dissatisfied.

How much do dog training lessons at PETCO usually cost?
My dog (hes a Beagle) about 8 months, and hes pretty much crazy. he cant control himself, always pulls the leash, still goes all over the place, eats just about everything he can find, and goes absolutely WILD whenever we have a guest over.
I know Beagles are hunting dogs and hound dogs, so their really outgoing and stuff, but this is extreme, and my dog is driving my whole family insane.
My parents actually want to send him away now.
I absolutely NEED to find a place to get him lessons
So, can somebody tell me
Are PETCO dog training lessons worth it?
Should i take the class or private lessons?
How much do they cost?
Any help would be appreciated!
My parents arent going to go around searching for special dog trainers, which is why i pretty much only have PETCO or other stores / classes.
Videos and books also never work for my family because end up not really following what they say.

If Petco seems a little steep, talk to your vet and see if your town offers any thing.
Check with the local humane society or shelters for their suggestions or if they offer classes as well.
Digging a little and picking up a phone usually supplies results. And once youve taken the classes, be sure to keep reinforcing and practicing, even as your dog gets older. They tend to forget some times if you dont keep it up.
